MEET YOUR OPTOMETRIST
Behind every great practice is a passionate professional dedicated to your eye health.
Joan completed her Bachelor of Optometry degree at Rand Afrikaans University (now UJ) in 2001 and has been dedicated to eye care ever since. Passionate about continual learning, she has earned advanced certifications in Ocular Diagnostics and Contact Lens Fitting.
In 2010, she completed her Ocular Diagnostics Certification at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, enhancing her ability to diagnose and manage complex eye conditions—especially valuable when performing pediatric cycloplegic refractions.
In 2011, she obtained her CAS (Certificate of Advanced Study) in Contact Lens Fitting and Anterior Segment Disease from the New England College of Optometry, Boston, USA, specializing in fitting advanced and specialty contact lenses.
In 2015, Joan successfully completed her exams in Ocular Therapeutics through the University of Boston, USA. Around the same time, South Africa introduced therapeutic privileges for optometrists, enabling them to further assist patients with ocular health conditions. Joan is currently completing her 600 hours of therapeutics training and community service within the public health sector.
Additionally, Joan holds an Advanced Diabetic Eye Disease Certification, which equips her with the skills to detect, monitor, and manage diabetic changes in the eye—an essential part of preventing vision loss in diabetic patients.
With Joan, your eyes are in expert, compassionate hands.

A word from Joan:
"I absolutely love what I do! Helping people see clearly—and making a real difference in their lives—is my true calling. I especially enjoy working with children and taking on challenging cases. There’s nothing more rewarding than witnessing how improved vision transforms someone’s world."
